Park Maintenance

The City of Pelham Parks  & Recreation Department is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the upkeep and preventative maintenance and cleaning of public parks and recreational facilities, ensuring that they remain safe, clean, and accessible to the community. The ideal candidate has a strong background in general maintenance, a proactive work ethic, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Representative List of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The list is not intended to be all-inclusive nor exclusive, but is intended to provide examples of typical duties performed.

  • Assists with maintaining parks, fields, and facilities.   
  • Assists with maintaining playgrounds, splash pad, and other play structures as assigned.
  • Prepares for assigned maintenance work by reviewing requests; gathering tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Applies fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides to grounds with some supervision.
  • Assists with maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance; making repairs; procuring parts and supplies.
  • Assists with maintaining appearance by cleaning and preparing indoor and outdoor areas and ground covering.
  • Assists with maintaining and repairs driveways, walks, hedges, swings, benches along with other park equipment.
  • Documents actions by completing work orders and logs as required.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with others.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Ability to perform a mix of unskilled and skilled tasks.

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. 

Compensation: 

  • Compensation for this position is $35,844 - $52,823 ($17.23ph - $25.40ph); based on experience.
  • The City of Pelham offers an excellent benefits package including RSA Tier I benefits.
